As a confirmed romantic, and a fan and occasional author of poetry (and not just
haiku), I strongly recommend that you get yourself to a movie theater soon to see
Bright Star, about the romance between
John Keats and Fanny Brawne. The film is a stunningly beautiful exercise in alchemy, demonstrating clearly how love becomes poetry and vice versa.
I have been thinking about the Romantics a lot lately. When I last
mentioned books, I was reading
The Age of Wonder, about the Romantic approach to science, and to belief. And with a
new year beginning, I could do worse than to let Curiosity and Beauty be my guides.
