I've been a New York Times reader forever (and have been covered by and contributed to it), and in general their blogs are good. I love Virginia Heffernan's spirited high-low screen insights in The Medium, David Pogue's loopy geekiness, Sewell Chan's dogged CityRoom reporting, and Cathy Horyn's On the Runway, which deconstructs fashion and provides insider access to it.
But I do not love their new "T" style blog, The Moment. It's alternately snarky and tedious, and heavy on the meaningless fashionista phrases (amusing in small doses on the printed page, not so much on a homepage). The influence of their blogroll is much too obvious: a hint of Hint here, a bit of Gawker there.
In other words, they have no style of their own. Their "Very" feature's recent mockery of Katie Holmes (and the look below is certainly mockable) is particularly egregious tonally.
Stylist, style thyself!
